Now you can meet production demands for more speed, power and accuracy from your indexing drives, without moving up to expensive, complex servos. Purpose-designed for quick reaction time and repeatability, the CLPC™ Series II closed-loop position control and Posidyne® clutch/brake outperform typical PLC-based systems, and approach servo accuracy for a fraction of the cost.

The CLPC Series II control gives near-flawless stopping repeatability to Posidyne clutch/brake drives. Closed-loop compensation yields typical repeatability of ±1 count per index. Coupled with the Posidyne clutch/brake's low inertia and high torque capability, you have the ideal drive for cycling heavy loads or for rapid-fire indexing. It's perfect for cutoffs, shears, auger fillers, conveyors and similar drives.

The CLPC control receives data from an incremental encoder and a home position sensor to detect any deviation in stopping position. The control's software uses a running average of this data to constantly adjust the brake's trigger point to hit home.

Unique Advantages

One control for any size drive. The control does not power the drive, so control size is independent of torque, minimizing your cost. And you can't overheat the control by pushing the drive too hard.

High accuracy. Closed-loop error compensation adjusts the brake trigger point for change in speed, dynamic load or friction in belts, bearings, lubricants, etc.

High torque without high cost. You can have up to 24,000 lb. ins. torque using standard drive components.

Faster than a PLC. A single-purpose control, the CLPC eliminates stopping inaccuracies caused by the variance of typical PLC scan time. The CLPC control has a scan time approximately 1000 times faster - at 20 microseconds - than basic PLCs.

Easy set-up and operation. A teaching function allows the operator to quickly re-zero the drive and recalibrate after a stoppage. For fine-tuning, the brake trigger point can be manually advanced or retarded (up to ± one-quarter index) via touch-pad on the front of the control.

Extreme flexibility. The CLPC control can provide high resolution or handle multiple shaft revolutions. It accepts up to 66.535 encoder counts. Encoder output is adjustable via dip-switch from 1/56 to 4X, allowing easy customization to system requirements.

CLPC™ Series II Control

Simple. No complicated programming. A few touch-pad controls and readouts allow machine operators to set-up and adjust the drive.

16-Bit microcontroller. The CLPC control operates at 12 MHz clock speed, with proprietary software in EPROMs.

Ready for integration. The CLPC control is designed as a stand-alone interface control between your machine control and the Posidyne clutch/brake. Ten I/Os allow easy interface with PLCs, sensors and controls.

Drive protection. A watchdog timer with 16 selectable values senses jams and shuts down drive. The CLPC control also ensures machine synchronization by signaling the master control when the clutch/brake drive is in operation.

Shop-hardened and reliable. Operates on standard single-phase 115/230 VAC. Circuit boards feature quick-disconnect blocks for easy service or upgrade. All relays and inputs are fused. Enclosure is NEMA 4/12. System is fully tested before shipping.

Posidyne® Clutch/Brake

Quick and powerful. Multiple small-diameter disks enable the Posidyne clutch/brake to handle dynamic torque of 100-24,000 lb. ins., while keeping the unit's own inertia extremely low. Cyclic inertia is only 0.003 lb. ft.2 for smallest unit; 3.18 lb. ft.2 for largest. Low inertia allows quicker acc./dec. with minimal motor size.

Ideal for cycling applications. Patented oil-shear design virtually eliminates torque fade and provides excellent repeatability in cycling applications.

High heat dissipation. Torque is transmitted by shearing automatic transmission fluid between the friction disks. The fluid absorbs the heat of engagement and dissipates it through the housing. A basic, mid-range Posidyne® clutch/brake rated at 3600 lb. ins. torque can handle 4.5 thermal horsepower. Auxiliary cooling increases this to 12 THP.

Long service life. Lubricated friction surfaces deliver much longer service life than most dry friction units... so long that Force Control offers a two-year warranty in approved applications.

Rotary Cutoff Knife

Speed without short cuts OR long cuts. Quick setup and accurate cuts through cold-to-hot phase shift are just two of the advantages the CPLC control brings to rotary cutoff drives. Manual offsets on the control make it easy to zero in on registration marks with minimal trial and error. And once on target, the knife is reliably cycled for consistent cuts, regardless of changing dynamic load. Applications include cutting of plastic bags, gloves, tubing, hose, extrusions and wire.

Chain Link Fence Weaving Machine

Never drops a stitch. Chain link fence is woven by a machine that twists heavy wire around a flat blade turning at 400-600 rpm, powered by a clutch/brake drive rated at 1000 lb. ins. For smooth, reliable weaving of the twisted wire, the blade must be positioned within ±1.5° of the same point every time. The CLPC™ control and Posidyne® clutch/brake easily deal with the changing dynamic loads seen by this drive providing power and accuracy, without the cost and complexity of a servo drive.

Gypsum Board Turnover

No bruised product. Wet, uncured gypsum board is a mushy product that has to be turned over prior to entering the drying kiln. The turnover uses a pair of wing-like blades, operated by a single-revolution harmonic crank drive. One wing receives the board off the infeed belt, begins to flip it over, and then passes it to the other wing which lays the board down on a transfer belt leading to the kiln. Perfect synchronization, with soft stops and starts, is key to handling board at speeds of 325 fpm without bruising it. The CLPC™ control allows easy touch-pad tuning of the stop point to ensure the dwell point on the harmonic crank is perfectly timed. Then, the control holds that stop point through cold-to-hot phase shift and other routine load changes to minimize product damage. Tunable acc./dec. on the Posidyne® clutch/brake makes it easy to achieve soft stops and starts with quick response.

Insulation Board Shear

Sheer speed and accuracy. Quick starts, accurate stops, consistent time-to-speed profiles - these are the characteristics that allow the CLPC control and Posidyne clutch/brake to drive an insulation board shear with power and precision. A typical drive is a single-revolution harmonic crank with a 15-hp motor and flywheel capable of delivering 85 peak hp. The low-inertia Posidyne clutch/brake delivers quick, consistent acceleration, while the control holds the stop point through cold-to-hot phase shift in the drive mechanism. The manual increment/decrement feature on the control allows quick set-up or adjustments with minimal scrap.
